A Counter without letters

Its simple, use transistors and solder the right pole with D and the high one in the middle with B and the left with reset and up at the other counter, the same at the other 7 segment display.

To make your circuit a bit closer to the real life you would need at least to limit the base current with a resistor http://everycircuit.com/circuit/5217836180701184. Moreover, in the real life, ex. a TTL input to be set to zero requires a current flowing from the input to the ground, which means one more resistor is needed.

@stanislav, the comment about the resistors is quite correct, as with most of these digital circuits, as soon as you add analogue components there needs to be current limiting somewhere, they have only been omitted from this series of circuits for convenience.
