I've been converting an old computer box into a power supply unit, and I didn't want to replace the push button with a switch, but a push button doesn't peovide continuous continuity for the circuit to stay permanently on, so I threw together a simple latch circuit to do the job. Anyway, such a circuit would be somewhat a waste of components, so I was thinking of somehow implementing a fail-safe short circuit disabling mechanism within this circuit, but I just can't figure out a few details. You'll notice that the circuit draws extremely small amounts of current during idling. This is because the circuit will have a separate power supply working constantly, and lowest consumption is desirable. This little circuit here has the given advantage of interrupting the connection to the mains in an eventual power outage. Close the switch first and then toggle the button to change output states.
