When make switch oppetated led will not light, until push button connecting earth to gate sets the circuit on. If the make switch is broken the led extinguishes, only to relight when the switch remade! This cycle can be broken by momentarily operating the push button to bring the gate high, resulting the latch. Works with N channel as well, momentary operation of the reset button can reduce the potential of the gate and proportionally reduce the drain source current like a sample and hold element.

Hi JoDaGi, this is great. How would you operate the LED with one push button. eg 1 push on , 1 push off?

Hi Cameron 1979, that would be a monostable multivibrator, which could be made from a couple of field effect or bipolar transistors but I think it would make more sense to use a chip. This circuit was just an exploration of the IGFET characteristics.

Sorry, bistable multivibrator, doh.😖😖😁
