Replace LED for Optocoupler to sense 50Hz to microcontroller.

Don't use 1n4148, use 1n4007. And with your configuration, power is wasted every half cycle. Try this http://everycircuit.com/circuit/5263892618674176

The 1n4148 can only handle 100V reverse bias, so two in series means 200V, but the peak inverse voltage of mains is 325V (can get higher), so it's advisable to use 1n4007 (1000V PIV, used all the time for mains purposes).
