CIRCUIT SETUP AND MATERIALS 1 voltmeter (110V - 250V) ensure it is compatible with the AC mains voltage. You will need 1 push button, 4 on/off switches, and 1 neon lamp (you can use a lamp like the ones used in test pens). The construction is as follows: Connect the voltmeter directly to the phase (L) and neutral (N) lines of your grounded plug. one end of the push button will connect to the phase line of your grounded outlet, and the other end will be connected in parallel to the 4 on/off switches. The other ends of the switches will be connected to resistors, and the other ends of the resistors will be connected in parallel to the ground line of the plug. The lamp in our circuit will be connected to the ground and neutral lines of the plug. If the plug is inserted into the outlet upside down, the lamp will light up and the circuit will not work. If the warning light is on, it means your plug is inserted into the socket upside down. If the plug is inserted into the socket upside down, your circuit will not work. For a proper test, you need to unplug the device, reverse the plug, and plug it back in. EXPLANATION This is a test circuit that allows you to check whether your residual current device (RCD) is functioning properly in your electrical installation up to 300 mA. The resistors used in the circuit should be 11-watt resistors, and their KΩ values should be the same as the circuit. The circuit is described as follows: The first resistor at the top tests the RCD with a 5 mA current, the second resistor tests with a 10 mA current, the third resistor tests with a 22 mA current, and finally, the fourth resistor tests with a 268 mA current. If there is a leakage in your system, for example, if you have a 30 mA RCD and you apply a 22 mA test and the RCD trips, it means there is a leakage current in your system, but it is not enough to trip the RCD. With this device, you can both detect leakage currents more practically and confirm that your RCD is working. USING THE CIRCUIT Turn one of the on/off switches to the "on" position, then press and release the test button. If the residual current device (RCD) doesn't trip, turn off the first on/off switch and turn on the next one, then press and release the test button again. If your system has a 30 mAh RCD and you've simultaneously activated the 10 mAh and 22 mAh switches and pressed the test button, and the RCD doesn't trip, it's faulty; if it trips, it's working properly.
