Thats not state of the art. Have you heard about WS2812B or APA102 digital bus controled LEDs which can be chain wired to hundreds and even organized to displays?

@hurz yeah I sure have I just don't know how the WS2812B works. Does it use pulse width modulation for the brightness? I wonder how it works with flip-flops or os erring like that?

@Voltransitor Each of them has a small controller IC on them and they need a special one wire bus protokoll. If you're really interested I recommend to look at the datasheet of the Led. It's really not that complicated and can easily be used with an ATmega328p with great library support.

its also running on attiny85, i have done recently some tests with both types of LEDs WS2812 has a single wire data protocol (asyncron Bus) while the APA102 has two wires likes I²C data and clock. A syncron Bus. Advantage of APA102 is, it can be used on any clock speed while WS2812 needs a minimum CPU speed
