Can it really take this much voltage over a thousand volts almost 2 thousand for a resistor of 47k to bring it down to light a led at 2v please someone explain this

Why not. The only bad thing is you burn 75.2Watt at the resistor

Ohm's Law. V=IR. Current through the LED is 40mA. So the resistor is dropping 40mA*47000Ω, which is 1880V.
