In this series circuit current flows from the battery through the resistor and back to the battery.

In order for current to flow a circuit must be closed with no breaks in it and voltage must be present. In this circuit the voltage is applied by a 1 volt battery.

Voltage is equivalent to electrical pressure.

Look at what happens when we adjust the voltage in a circuit.
