Is there a reason you have the emitter connected to the LED and collector to ground vs the other way around? Flipping them seems to increase the amps used by the led, so you'd need to put a resistor on it, but it also prevents current from flowing backwards through the 555 chip when its triggered (not sure if that matters or not).
