Let's take a 12 volt battery and a measured resistor with standard value (200Ω) and let's find out in which way i can connect my 4 LEDs. Here i made 3 situations. By connecting two by two LEDs, in series and in parallel! Take a good look at the numbers and the diagram and make your comparisons! I made these schematics in order to find out in which way i should connect my LEDs to my motorbike and keep my battery as soon as life longer when the engine is stop!!

Anyway, the serial one is always the best. Parallel circuit of LEDs is mostly a bad idea, cuz they differ to much in threshold voltage. Hope this helps.
